According to The Beliner Morgenpost article,
released on Nov.10th
1999, the president of the Bundestag Wolfgang Thierse resents not having saved
more of the original Berliner Mauer- thousands of disappointed tourists
are wondering where the Wall has been, and in spite of it's historical
monument status, the last remaining stretch of the original Berlin Wall,
the East Side Gallery stands on shaky ground. Head of the association Artist initiative East Side Gallery
Kani Alavi, his brother Kasra Alavi and 30 other Wall artists were
celebrating the opening of Kani and Kasra Alavi's new gallery, Gallerie am
Potsdamer Platz
{StresemanStr.28} last November with an exhibition that featured the Wall
paintings transferred onto {115cmx80cm} canvas. Thierse, who visited the
show, admitted to having pushed for the removal of the Wall in the past.
He acknowledged, that the East Side Gallery is an important piece in
history but disappointed East Side Gallery members by refusing to help
pay for the desperately needed restoration of this 1.3km stretch of the
painted Wall. Gallery owner and head of the association East Side Gallery
Kani Alavi intends to sell every painting in the show for DM 4000. Ten
percent of this money are going towards the restoration (click

Gallery. The exhibition at the Gallerie am Potsdamer Platz closed on
Nov.20th, but will go on the road to Spain, Korea and the USA.
