Blanch
After the canvas paintings of the East Side Gallery that started at the 9th
of November 1999 with an exhibition in Berlin, and after
having been exposed during the last two months in Tarragona, Spain, they now move on to another city in
the province of Tarragona. The village is called Roquetes and is not only
the next place of remembering the East Side Gallery, but also the place
of birth of the East Side painter Ignasi Blanch. Thanks to his work and
dedication 10 of the canvas paintings of the East Side Gallery are going to
be exposed in the Sala "La Poma" from the 26th of February till the 12th of
March. Besides the paintings there will be unedited
photographs of the Berlin wall and the East Side Gallery, taken also by Ignasi
Blanch and Angel Burgas. In relation to the exposition and the fact that Ignasi Blanch was
born in Roquetes there will be a monument inaugurated the same 26th of
February, which is an exact copy of the piece of the Berlin wall that
Ignasi Blanch painted in 1989 /90. The copy is placed in the old center of
Roquetes and Blanch has repainted his original painting on it. The monument
will stay after the exposition will have moved on in March.
The exposition can be seen at the Sala "La Poma", Avenida Ports de Caro 11,

is the title of the exhibition that opened last Friday, the 5th of November 1999 at the "Galerie am Potsdamer Platz" (Stresemannstrasse 128, 10969 Berlin). Recording the 9th of November 1989 and the fall of the Berlin Wall, 28 of the former East Side painters are presenting their Wall painting of the East Side Gallery on 1,15m x 80 cm canvas. The exposition shows how the East Side Gallery had been 10 years ago and how it could be again if it finally was restored. The paintings are all for sale and part of the money goes to the "Künstlerinitiative East Side Gallery e.V." for the restoration of the Gallery. For one month these paintings are going to be seen at the "Galerie am Potsdamer Platz" and after that it is planned to show them in several other cities of Germany and maybe even of other countries. The organizers are in talks with France and Spain already.
The exposition has been initiated and organized by the galerist and artists Kani Alavi, who has also painted at the East Side Gallery and who is the president of the Künstlerinitiative East Side Gallery e.V. The exposition has been opened on Friday the 5th with a speech of the President of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Thierse. He said that from his point of view the East Side Gallery must be saved to remember the history of Berlin and Germany and especially to remember the time of changes when the wall came down and to not forget about the hopes that were born these days.
